Shyan Selah returns home for an exclusive performance for Special Educators.

Right on the heels of the Shyan Selah Experience I was asked to story tell and perform at a Special Educators Awards Ceremony on October 25th 2019. This event was also produced by the Washington Education Association and was held at my Alma Mater of Federal Way High School in my hometown of Federal Way. I put on a 30 minute “Rock n’ Soul” story tell that gave me chills. Just being there at FWHS was both nostalgic and liberating. There’s another level of pride that comes with this territory that honestly I’ve seen only in other cities. I’ve seen what Snoop Dogg has done for youth culture in Long Beach, what KRS ONE has done in the Bronx, what Common has done in Chicago and Tyler Perry has done in Atlanta and so on. The spirit, the commitment and the energy comes from a similar place. Where we are from is a part of who we are, thus it’s with us wherever we go. This event brought all of that home for me and cemented and sealed my reasons for doing what is that I do.

Though this is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s been going on the last couple of months I’m certainly proud to do what it is I do. It’s not without its obstacles, it’s doubters, or it’s competitors but it is most definitely worth all that comes with the territory when you see just one…, yep when just one soul gets a win. That’s what I do, that’s what it’s about and that quest will continue until I’ve reached them all, even if it’s one by one.
